Out of the Depths
"Some wounds seem like they are never going to heal; sometimes the brokenness seems too impossible to fix. I have asked myself time and time again if it is possible to rise above the pain within your past and move forward when life appears so dark. I have struggled greatly with the concept of healing. This body of work, Out of the Depths, is centered on this confrontation."
"The depiction of wings in different forms represents the multiple ways I have begun to heal within my life. The imagery of wings serve as a representation of comfort and faith, they act as a cornerstone amongst all that surrounds them. In the end, each painting goes back to the emotional struggles I have undergone concerning the death of my father, my depression, my physical health, the effects of my father’s alcoholism, and the great effort for my family to meet their financial needs. Most importantly, these paintings are a reflection of the grace and healing I have received throughout all I have encountered. They are a depiction of how I have found hope in something greater than myself, and greater than the pain I have experienced." -Abigail Jones, Artist Statement
Malachi 4:2: “But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall” (NIV).
